Not forgetting what you have heard…

“Anyone who listens to the Word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it — not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it — they will be blessed in what they do.” (James 23-26)

Yolima Ramírez came to know Jesus as a young child and always had a desire to become a missionary. When she found herself working in the financial sector in Colombia instead, she was frustrated. That was until her first Haggai Leader Experience (HLE) in 2014 when she came back to work and shared the Gospel with her team. Every single one of them received Jesus and she realized she could serve Jesus even in the marketplace. This was a transformational experience for Yolima and she says, ”Now I use all my time, resources, and life to serve Jesus.”

What has bothered Yolima, however, is how quickly some people forget about their vision to share the Gospel. To counteract this, she dedicated herself to serving on the board for the very active Haggai Colombia, helping to develop strategies to encourage leaders attending the HLE to live out their commitment to end Gospel poverty. Through this, she has had the opportunity to equip more than 285 leaders to reach their goals and steward their responsibility to continue in the way they have started, knowing God’s promise to bless them in what they do.

There is no more powerful testimony of that truth than her own story. After working for 25 years in the financial sector, Yolima whispered her dream of being a florist to a friend at an HLE in 2018. She is now the co-founder of a floral company that decorates for weddings and events, bringing beauty and delight to her customers and blessings in her own life.

Yolima knows that God can overcome any hurdle and prays fervently for the people of Colombia. In a country with many know of God but don’t understand the Gospel, she says “most people think that they don’t need Jesus because they are good, or they do good works.” She knows that just as a flower needs water, we all need a Savior, and so she never tires of telling the young and old about the Good News of Jesus.
