A Cameroonian Judge Who Refuses Bribes

As a judge at the Supreme Court of Cameroon and a Christian, Haggai leader Joseph Belporo has the privilege to serve litigants in the fear of God. One thing that makes Joseph stand out from the norm is that he does this with probity, avoiding the pitfalls of bribes.

In an environment where corruption is not foreign, this attitude surprises those who find themselves before a magistrate who makes such an exception. And Joseph’s way of serving does not go unnoticed. As a judge who works with integrity, he is appreciated by his colleagues and by those who seek true justice. Through his career choices, Joseph shares his beliefs in Jesus Christ with others and ensures the name of God is glorified. Having a love of books, he also buys good Christian titles which he distributes to his fellow magistrates to share the Good News with them.

He also supports pastors and evangelists in his Ecclesiastical District by equipping them with a library of Christian books to help them learn and grow in their own knowledge of Jesus Christ and His teachings. He also supports them financially as much as possible.

In terms of sharing the Gospel, Joseph collaborates with an evangelist named Trinita Janvier in his region to reach a greater number of souls for Christ. Over the past five years, Joseph has provided Trinita with hundreds of French Bibles and thousands of Gospel tracts for free distribution. Many young people were thus able to have their own Bible for the first time as well as a few state authorities.

While the Bible has been translated into Joseph’s own Gbaya language — spoken mainly in the west of the Central African Republic and across the border in Cameroon — this Bible is still not available to the masses. To enable his people to enjoy the benefits of knowing the Bible, he sometimes seeks it far and wide to purchase hundreds of stocks and make them available to those in need at a price devoid of any profit.

For Joseph, it is a great joy to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in this way, the One who freed him from the slavery of sin for His admirable light.
