Saving The Children

Olinda TImms

When negligence in an Indian hospital led to the death of dozens of children, many of them newborn, Haggai leader Olinda TImms felt led to write to the Deccan Herald, one of India’s leading newspapers.

As adjunct professor, Division of Health and Humanities, St. John’s Research Institute, Bengaluru, Olinda calls on her nation to reconsider the way in which hospital care is organized in a nation where so many are without adequate care.

She believes that “doctors have to advocate against commercialization of healthcare that could alienate millions in this country. It is sad that the Gorakhpur tragedy was necessary to highlight this problem and for voices to be raised against the unjust neglect of the public health system, but let’s hope it is the turning point.”
