Two Lives Changed in South Asia

Haggai leader Pablo* is the senior pastor at a church in South Asia. In this role, he oversees many divisions of the church’s ministries including their mission school, social work, outreach, and more; but he can’t help but talk about one leg of his ministry that has captured his heart: a team reaching out to unreached people groups, discipling new believers and equipping them so they can reach out to their own people.

This team always faces security and safety issues, but some time ago, Pablo got to see what hope looks like — what God’s power looks like, in fact — through two stories of hope.

A young man in a nearby town had been in a terrible motorcycle accident. He was severely injured, with many broken bones and little mobility. He couldn’t perform the most basic human tasks to take care of himself and depended heavily on his wife and mother to care for him. It would most likely be that way for a year, but even that looked bleak.

Fortunately, something was happening while he healed — something bigger. His mother, whom Pablo and his team had reached out to and were counseling, decided to follow Jesus and accepted Him as her savior. As a new believer she began to read the Bible. One of the passages that she read was about Jesus healing a lame man. She then began to pray for her son in a new way, and within just a few days, her son could walk. Miraculously, he had healed! His mother also saw a ripe rice harvest from her fields that very same week, something else she had begun to pray for when she decided to follow Jesus.

In other area, an influential community leader had been searching for the truth for most of his life. He’d been to many spiritual leaders, joined religious organizations, and traveled for months to preach from one place to another to share what his religion taught him. Yet, he still didn’t feel the peace and assurance of salvation he longed for and knew he hadn’t truly found the Truth.

Then he met Pablo’s team. In the last two years, he’s learned the Truth, understands the meaning of salvation, and made the decision to give his life to Jesus. Where he lives, there are about 225,000 people, but less than 1,500 of those people are Christians. God led him to Pablo’s team where he could finally receive the answers he’d searched for.

Pablo believes that the Truth is the fertilizer for miracles like these. Their mission is to seek non-Christians from unreached people groups in South Asia, and when these people come to accept Jesus, Pablo and his team disciples them so they can, in turn, reach out to their own people.

The prayer is that Pablo and his team can continue their mission and reach more people like the influential community leader and the family of the man who was in the motorcycle accident. Those men and women are now reaching out their communities and sharing the hope of the Gospel. This is the power of multiplication.
