Reaching Places in Southeast Asia
The Haggai Leader Experience (HLE) is a transformational event designed to equip leaders from around the world to demonstrate and present[1] the Gospel, bringing restoration to their communities. For one distinct leader, Borükhüm*, a catalyst missionary in Southeast Asia, the HLE became the turning point in his ministry. During one of his HLE sessions, he was deeply moved. “It is imprinted in my heart,” he said, “and I realized the task is huge.” That realization reshaped the way he viewed missions and leadership. He saw that the call to evangelize was not limited to preaching; it was a call to bring about transformation in both individuals and communities.
Four years ago, Borükhüm and his wife, Hantsüla*, made a courageous decision to live out this calling. They left their stable jobs and traveled nearly 30 hours to reach tribal villages on the frontier of Southeast Asia. There, they chose to fully immerse themselves in the Yimkhiung community, eating with the people, sleeping in their homes, and building trust through genuine relationships. Their goal was simple: to mobilize the church for missions and community development, bringing spiritual renewal and tangible change to areas long overlooked.
From that start, the impact has multiplied. What started with one couple has now grown into partnerships with 40 villages. Each village, home to roughly 300 to 500 individuals, is experiencing transformation through their holistic approach. He has trained 40 pastors and praying and working to reach out 118 villages to lead their congregations in missions and development work, empowering them to engage their communities through both faith and action. Together, they’ve also built relationships with village chiefs, churches, families, fostering collaboration that strengthens trust and unity.
Borükhüm’s mission extends beyond the present generation. Inspired by his Haggai equipping[2] , he is preparing young people to become future missionaries and leaders. So far, 70 plus next generation of emerging missionaries have completed his training, learning to navigate cultural differences and embrace the calling of cross-cultural missions. By the end of this year, many of them will be sent out to begin their own ministry journeys.
However, Borükhüm does not focus solely on church leadership. The needs in these villages are immense, from limited access to clean water to the lack of educational resources. Guided by what he learned through the HLE’s emphasis on holistic transformation, he is now working to build refuge homes for young girl students to live safely and continue their studies, empowering women to engage in organic farming products business, harvesting rain water to provide sustainable water supplies, engage in plantation of tress. These efforts address immediate physical needs while building lasting relationships that open doors for spiritual growth.
“The task is huge,” he says, reflecting on the scale of his mission. “It takes time to win the trust of villages, the church, and their leaders. But transformation comes when we serve with love and persistence.” The HLE equipped Borükhüm with tools to create sustainable change, but more importantly, it inspired him to see every act of service as part of God’s greater plan for restoration.
Today, the results of Borükhüm’s ministry speak for themselves. Churches are being revived, young people are being sent as missionaries, and entire communities are experiencing hope. Borükhüm and his new team is envisioning to reach out to 13 south East Asian countries as a great movement for spiritual awakening by sending 13 missionary couples by 2030 .Through courage and sacrifice, Borükhüm continues to embody the organization’s mission: To equip and inspire strategically positioned leaders to more effectively demonstrate and present the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to prepare others to do the same.[3] His story stands as a testament to the ripple effect of the Haggai Leader Experience, how one equipped leader can ignite transformation that touches countless lives.
