Haggai International Announces Sale of Mid-Pacific Center in Maui

In a conscientious effort to responsibly manage the resources generously contributed by the Haggai financial partners, the trustees have been prayerfully assessing both the efficacy of a U.S.-based equipping center and the financial implications of maintaining the Mid-Pacific Center (MPC) property in Maui. In light of the unprecedented challenges posed by the global pandemic that began in March 2020, we have carefully evaluated how best to steward our MPC. While the center has served as a vital hub for equipping leaders for nearly three decades, the realities of the pandemic made it clear that we needed to explore alternative avenues to more effectively fulfill our mission.

After much prayer, discernment, and consultation with our board, we made the difficult decision to explore the possibility of selling the MPC. However, amidst this transition, we are overjoyed to share that God has opened new doors for us to continue our mission of equipping leaders in innovative ways.

Thanks to the unwavering support of our partners, we successfully launched a live, interactive Virtual Haggai Leader Experience in August 2020. Additionally, in June 2023, we resumed our in-person Haggai Leader Experience in Asia, with great momentum, equipping a record-breaking 8,294 leaders from 117 nations.

As we navigated this transition, an exciting opportunity arose for the future use of the MPC. A local developer expressed interest in repurposing the building for workforce housing, addressing the critical need for affordable housing for teachers, medical personnel, and hospitality workers in Maui.

After prayerful consideration and with a deep sense of responsibility, the Haggai International Board of Trustees made the decision to sell the property to the state of Hawaii. The sale officially closed on Thursday, March 28th, and while the original purpose for workforce housing will eventually be realized, initially the state plans to use the property to provide housing for families who lost their homes in the Maui fires.

We are immensely grateful for the impact that the MPC has had over the years, equipping more than 12,000 leaders from around the world within its walls. As we bid farewell to this physical space, we know that we have never been about bricks and mortar, and yet, we celebrate the ways it will continue to bless the Maui community in their current and future housing needs.

Moving forward, the proceeds from the sale of the MPC will be reinvested into our mission of equipping leaders and transforming lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We remain committed to our vision of empowering leaders to make a lasting impact in their communities and nations.

We are encouraged as we look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we press onward in our mission.
