How an Everyday Woman is Restoring Others in Botswana: Delight’s Impact
Delight Simon of Botswana, Africa, leads from the ordinary spaces of daily life, supermarkets, village paths, and city streets, where faith requires courage and obedience. As a wife and homemaker, she ministers in contexts where spiritual conversations are not always welcomed and where women are not always expected to initiate them. Yet it is precisely within these everyday settings that her leadership carries weight. Her influence does not depend on a platform, but on her willingness to say yes when the moment demands courage.
For years, Delight longed for deeper preparation to share the gospel more effectively. When she was accepted into the Haggai Leader Experience (HLE), she described the moment with gratitude and joy. Reflecting on the training, she explained, “I have been fully equipped to share the gospel with people of different beliefs. It’s very easy to communicate the Gospel to everyone and everywhere.” That equipping marked a discernible shift. Where she once felt limited, she now felt prepared. Where uncertainty once lingered, clarity and confidence emerged.
The fruit of that preparation became evident almost immediately. On January 1st, 2025 while standing in a long checkout line with her husband, a man bypassed others and stepped directly in front of them. The situation was frustrating, yet Delight sensed an opportunity. Instead of responding with irritation, she greeted him and began a conversation. When she learned that he did not know Jesus, she asked if he would like to. He agreed. Just as they prepared to pray, he was called to the cashier. After paying, he waited so they could finish. In that public marketplace, he surrendered his life to Christ. A moment of inconvenience became a moment of eternal significance.
Soon after, another encounter unfolded in a shop queue. A man stood ahead of her, absorbed in his phone. Unsure how to begin, she silently asked the Holy Spirit for guidance. When his phone fell with a loud crash, she expressed concern. Upon learning that the device was protected by a screen guard, she gently asked whether his life was protected. The unexpected question opened the door to a deeper conversation, and he asked her to pray with him. Again, an ordinary setting became sacred space.
Delight’s leadership extends beyond individual conversations into intentional multiplication. She serves on an evangelistic outreach team composed of believers from different churches who dedicate one hour every third Saturday of the month to share the gospel in partnership with a local congregation. Paired with a 17-year-old student, she encountered an elderly traditional healer searching unsuccessfully for a medicinal tree called “The Tree of Life”. After hearing the gospel, the man received Christ with joy and later reflected that perhaps he had not found his tree because God intended him to encounter the message of everlasting life. The following Sunday, he was the first to arrive at church.
Her outreach has also included restoring a man wounded by previous church experiences, guiding him back toward faith and community. In addition, Delight and her husband, Rapelang Edward Simon, who serves as Team Leader of the Haggai International Botswana Executive Team, participated in a national Haggai training together. In addition to contributions through intercession and financial support, she initiated the idea of the “Gaborone Mission, Botswana for Jesus,” in partnership with African Enterprise and local churches. As a result of her mobilization efforts, 110 local churches collaborated for the mission.
Delight’s story demonstrates the catalytic impact of the Haggai Leader Experience. Equipped with practical tools, strengthened by a global network, and anchored in obedience, she is now prepared to lead with intentionality. Her life invites others to recognize that leadership often begins not with position, but with availability. In the queue, in the village, and in the quiet prompting of the Spirit, she continues to say yes.
