A Place to Call Home

Haggai leader Sok* lives in Cambodia where he works to reach college-aged students through a housing program and drop-in center. Their goal is to make disciples of young men and women who come from underprivileged communities through providing a safe place to live, mentoring, and Bible studies. The idea is that these students will bring the story of the Gospel back to their families in remote villages, reaching non-Christians across the country in places where Jesus’ name may have never been mentioned.

They enroll a diversity of students from every corner of Cambodia. Before one student enrolled, he felt he had lost all hope of survival — he didn’t want to live. When he came to the center, his eyes and heart were opened. Hope was restored. He began working with Sok as an administrative assistant. He met Jesus and started boldly showing his heart for and commitment to God and the Gospel. Sok enrolled him in a leadership development class to help him build up his confidence and skills, a journey that revealed an untapped passion studying theology. Today, he is a student in seminary.

Another student, like so many of the ones who come through the center, is also continuing her education, but this time further afield.

“After living at our ministry center for four years, she flew to Japan for a job-training program,” Sok shared. “I’m excited to see her grow now that she has given her life to God and has a good understanding about her faith and His love for her.”

They continue to see new students come to the housing and drop-in center, and God continues to ignite hope in these young people’s hearts. One student, one heart at a time, Sok and his staff continue to impact more lives for Jesus, spreading His love throughout their country.
