The Power Of An Equipped Leader
Over 75 percent of Uganda’s population is under 30 years old. Out of 176 countries, Uganda is ranked 151 on the Corruption Perception Index. It’s a country with great needs – and great potential.
In the middle of this is a woman. A woman uniquely positioned to impact change on a political level, as well as a grassroots level. This woman is Dorothy Kisaka, Senior Presidential Advisor to the President of Uganda and Governance Advisor to the Prime Minister of Uganda. She’s also the co-founder of Destiny Consult, which trains and mentors young adults. Over 400 young adults have graduated from the program, including the current Inspector General of the government of Uganda.
“I started Destiny Consult after attending the Haggai Leader Experience in 2000,” Dorothy says. “The experience changed my worldview. I left seeing the world as God’s world and understanding His desire that all people should come to Him and understanding that I have a role I can play in changing the world.”
When Dorothy came home from Haggai, she helped revive Haggai’s Ugandan chapter of the alumni association and served as president for 10 years, training 270 leaders during that time. She and her husband Peter also started Destiny Consult – a year-long program for young leaders to experience training and mentoring through Bible-based curriculum that focuses on spiritual formation.
“We want to empower young professionals to contribute to national development as they engage in self-driven and value-based wealth creation initiatives. Our participants have 32 face-to-face engagements with the mentors throughout the year and they graduate at the end of the year,” Dorothy says. “We also hold annual leadership EXPOs which attract up to 500 people each year and are presided over by government leaders. In addition, we provide organizational development services where we engage with organizations to train leaders using a Bible-based curriculum.”
When it comes to planning for the future, Dorothy has big goals.
“I aim to see 300 leaders trained annually through Destiny Consult and I intend to build a leaders’ training and retreat center in the Kampala suburbs by 2024. I also plan to write and publish books and curriculum for empowering leaders.“
For Dorothy, her Haggai Leader Experience was the catalyst she needed to begin changing her country.
“I’m so grateful for my Haggai sponsors who invested in my HLE. That one-time investment is a gift that keeps on giving. They opened my eyes to know Christ’s purpose for my life, and to transform my worldview to embrace the world as God’s world. By God’s grace I have been used to help many people because I was empowered through their generous gift.”
