Dr. Mary Kay Murphy comes to Haggai International having served as Development Officer at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta for more than 17 years. She served previously at the Georgia International of Technology, the University of Georgia, and Oglethorpe University. She holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University in Education Administration and a M.Ed. in English and Education from Emory University.
She has been elected to six terms as District 3 Board member for the Gwinnett County Board of Education where she represents 26 schools in Gwinnett Country. She served as Board Chair in 2015, 2010, 2004, and 2000. In 2013, she received the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce Award for Service to Education.
Dr. Murphy is also a Board member of the Georgia School Boards Association and serves on the Education Committee of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. In 2015, she was appointed to the Governor’s School Board Advisory Committee. In 2009, she was selected for the State Board of Education’s Local School Board Advisory Committee representing Georgia’s 7th Congressional District.
From 1999 to 2001, she was Adjunct Professor of Leadership and Organizations at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University where she directed the Master’s Degree Program in Institutional Advancement. She serves as Adjunct Professor of Philanthropy and Development at LaGrange.
She is married to Michael C. Murphy, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a lawyer in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. The Murphys are parents of three grown daughters and two grandchildren.
