I remember the dreadful typhoon Haiyan destroyed the southern Philippines. There was no electricity, no food, and no potable water, with massive destruction, dead bodies all around, and weeping all over. Many families were separated and people were dealing with a lot of uncertainty.
Many visited the devastated city of Tacloban, expressed love and concern, and performed good deeds. We Christians met with the people to pray, share God’s Word, and counseled them. The miracle of transformation began. The people began to have energy for a new beginning, with joy in their hearts and smiles on their faces. Hope for the future surrounded them.
Inevitably, hardships and tribulations come our way not only to change us, but to position us for a greater life that God intends. Today, Tacloban is a better place. Infrastructures have been strategically constructed; the economy is stronger; and the people have found their hope in God and are growing in their faith.
Lord, help us to be aware of life’s circumstances so that we can handle them with a proper perspective and solve them with your passion that we may rejoice in you and your name be glorified.
