This verse has been a great comfort in my struggles with uncontrolled fear that cripples. In the Filipino culture, in the face of fear in circumstances beyond our control, we often leave matters to fate and say, “Bahala na.” This is a phrase meaning “come what may” or leave matters to fate.
In my life, I too have uttered this phrase “bahala na” when confronted with concerns. But praise God, I can stand by and savor His promises in His Word. When in darkness and groping for answers and comfort, “the Lord is my light and my salvation.” When all earthly “safe houses” like pride and other pursuits crumble, God is my fortress and my refuge that keeps my feet on stable land. He is the stronghold of my life. I have memorized this verse and utter this in trying circumstances. The Lord conquers, defeats, and totally wipes away fear! This verse ushers in the glory of His presence, and in His presence, there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).
Thank you Father God, Abba. You are our light and our salvation and the stronghold of our life. No matter what circumstances, we will not fear.
