The Medium Is The Messenger
Kenia Santana first preached the Gospel at the age of four, doing street outreach with her grandmother. By age seven, she had a spot on her father’s Christian radio show. Her entire life has been about communicating the Gospel – in the streets, in churches, in house groups, and through media.
In 2008, though, Kenia’s focus completely changed. The Haggai Leader Experience caused her to re-evaluate her priorities. She decided she would use media to reach the greatest number of people with the Gospel and influence her society “with God’s point of view.”
“I returned to Chile, where I already had a media career, and I started a radio and TV show serving secular audiences,” she said. “My social media messages changed from being about personal exposure to exposing the Christian message.”
Today, Kenia is a successful and well-regarded media personality in her nation. Since 2013, she has been a strategist and host for Television Nacional Evangélica (TNE).
“I use my platform as a TV host to encourage people to share their faith,” she says. “I have seen how our churches and ministries lack vision when it comes to using media to spread the Gospel. It’s very evident in the lack of resources available to develop this area. Our people don’t even consider social media as a tool for reaching out.”
As a Haggai leader, Kenia feels a strong sense of commitment.
“There is a weight of responsibility before God, society, and those who are lost, when you are a Haggai leader.”
Kenia’s journey to becoming a TV personality has been an interesting one. She actually attended dental school, graduating at age 20. For 26 years, she worked as a dentist and also pastored a church during that time.
“As a dentist, the Lord allowed me to preach to my patients and guide many of them to Jesus – and to help many people without economic resources,” she says. “Living in Chile, I am not allowed to practice dentistry, but my job in TV has helped me continue my goal of sharing the Gospel.”
And as for Kenia’s future goals?
“I would like to join a team working nationally and internationally using music and audiovisual resources to reach children and young people in areas struggling with poverty and drug trafficking. We would also provide food and health assistance.
“My goal always will be to teach people how to reach others for Christ, using all of the resources we have.”
